Theatrical geographic

Here’s an easy one to get this started: What theatre district is this an image of? Bonus points if you can name the four major bounding streets.

This is the first in a new photo series on theatre geography.

  1. Oh, I like this game!! That’s Times Square in New York City. I think the theatre district is officially bounded on the west by 8th Avenue, on the east by 6th Avenue, on the south by 42nd St., and on the north by 57th St.

I might be wrong about 8th Ave…it might be 9th Ave, because there are a couple of theatres that are west of 8th. And I’m also not entirely sure about 57th St. But it sounds right.

  2. I knew it wasn't Toronto's Queen & Bathurst area. I didn't see a crater where that bike store used to be.

  3. I don’t know what it is, but Times Square it ain’t. There are no low buildings in Times Square, and we would need Broadway cutting across the picture.

  4. 100% that’s New York. Broadway and 7th ave are meeting just off centre, toward the bottom right corner.
